12 february 2003 - ca' pesaro reopens
The house of modern art reopens. At last! On November 30th 2003 (official opening on November 29th) after about 10 years, visitors can now return to visit Ca' Pesaro - Museum of Modern Art, with the 19th and 20th century collections of paintings, sculptures and graphic art: international masterpieces by Chagall, Kandinsky, Klee, Klimt and Matisse, and Italian paintings by Morandi, De Chirico and Carrà, some Venetian works by Vedova, Nono, Viani and Gino Rossi. The reconditioning project by Boris Podrecca had frescoes, marbles and friezes restored; the display was redesinged, and modern information facilities were set up. The Museum of modern art now boasts technologically advanced systems and modern public services (bar, bookshop, learning rooms and an elevator for the disabled). The palace of Ca' Pesaro was built by Baldassarre Longhena and Antonio Gaspari in late 17th century - early 18th century. It's a civic museum since 1902 when the Town Hall of Venice decided to gather the municipal collection of modern art in this ancient 'palazzo' on the Grand Canal.
